Section cuts, and possible staff cuts are coming to the Buffalo News, according to Buffalo Business First.

According to the article, the reductions stem from economic factors like a decline in advertising revenue and the rising cost of newsprint. The article cited a memo from Buffalo News editor, and V.P., Michael Connelly which explains The News had a substantial loss in the first quarter. The memo said it’s the company’s first quarterly loss in more than 40 years.

According to the memo, TV Topics will no longer be a part of the Sunday edition. Niagara Weekend is also being eliminated. The memo said The News remains dedicated to reporting and photography, and Connelly said he is working to protect those elements.
