A City of Tonawanda man was charged with DWI after driving a pickup truck into a soccer net.

Tonawanda City police say Tyler Smith, 20, clipped a National Grid pole and drove up onto a city soccer field before driving through the net.

The crash happened at Fletcher and Hinds Streets near Tonawanda High School at 3:17 Tuesday morning, according to officials. Police say Smith failed to make a turn from Hinds Street onto Fletcher Street.

Neither Smith nor his passenger were injured during the crash, according to officers.

Officers say Smith told them he was "drinking at a friend's house." He blew a .20 BAC at the police station.

Smith was charged with DWI, aggravated DWI, criminal mischief and six traffic infractions.
