Driver charged in Wheatfield double fatal crash

Posted

The woman who police say hit and killed two people while driving past a party in Wheatfield, has been charged with misdemeanors and traffic violations.

On August 20th, just after midnight, Carly Marrs was driving on Shawnee road. Police say a big party was going on nearby, and because cars were parked along the sides of the street, it would have been difficult for pedestrians to step out of the way of oncoming traffic.

Marrs hit three people near 6680 Shawnee road. Two of them - Melanie Aronow and Quience Harper, both 18 years old - died at the scene. The third pedestrian who was struck, Quincy Bird, is still recovering from his injuries.

Investigators say Marrs passed all the field drug tests, but a blood test showed she had used marijuana before the crash. Police say the levels were low enough that it wouldn't have impaired her driving, but that they did find a pipe containing marijuana inside her car.

Marrs says she just didn't see the pedestrians - the road was dark and had no lighting.

She is due back in court on October 26th.
