Hiring 716: Dress for Success giving women tools to support their families

Dress for Success solves the issue that often plagues disadvantaged women trying to enter the workforce: needing to dress for the job but not being able to afford dressing for the job.

The non-profit not only offers professional wardrobing for women, but valuable job resources. The goal is to provide long-lasting solutions to help women break the cycle of poverty and allow them to be self sufficient.

Each client is given an outfit to secure the job and along with that, confidence and knowledge of how to craft a good resume, how to ace the interview and so much more. "We call our fitting room the transformation room," says Michelle Barron, Executive Director of Dress for Success Buffalo. Barron says when women look good, they feel good and, "They're empowered and inspired and feel like they can take on anything."

If you won't use the resources of Dress for Success, like the resume help, mock interviews or soft-skills training, consider donating. The non-profit is in need of monetary donations, professional clothing in size 14 and white button down shirts and blouses in all sizes.

Dress for Success Buffalo will offer an online presence workshop, focused on creating positive online profiles. You'll learn to create a professional email address and LinkedIn profile.

You can also get help looking over your resume and a professional headshot from a photographer on-site. The workshop is Saturday, July 28th from10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1639 Hertel Avenue, Buffalo.

You can learn more information by heading to the Dress for Success website, or emailing buffalo@dressforsuccess.org.
