Drag racers plead guilty in fatal crash

According to the Erie County D.A., 20-year-old Kody Schroeder and 18-year-old Mercedes Castillo, both of Holland, have pleaded guilty for their role in a deadly drag race that took place back in April.

The race reportedly occurred on April 12, 2016 at around 2:10 p.m in Colden, NY with both men racing one another.

Schroeder’s car crashed into the back of a pickup truck that was turning into a driveway on Center Street. 

The collision killed 28-year-old Chauncey Kloiber of Wales, who was the passenger in Schroeder’s car as well as seriously injuring another passenger, 20-year-old Tabitha Trautwein of Holland.

Schroeder has pleaded guilty to several charges including Manslaughter, Vehicular Manslaughter and Vehicular Assault.

Castillo has pleaded guilty to Criminally Negligent Homicide and Assault.

Schroeder faces a maximum of 15 years in prison and Castillo faces a maximum of four years.

Both are due back in court in December.
