Firefighters from the South Line Fire District responded to a house fire on E Rouen Drive, right near Towers Boulevard, early Tuesday morning.

Assistant Chief Dennis Rydzynski, Jr. said the fire started in the kitchen but extended into the attic.

Two people inside the house - a husband and wife - made it out safely.

Firefighters say it was their dog that alerted the couple to the fire.

It's unclear if there were smoke detectors or if they went off.

Firefighters say minimal damage was done to the house.

Gas and electric had to be turned off.  The residents are staying with either friends or family as a result.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
