2 arrested for DWI as cops check on disabled car

Two men face DWI charges after being arrested, in unrelated incidents, on the same stretch of Route 62 in Dayton within a short time of each other early Saturday morning.

NYS Troopers arrested Shawn Daniels, 17, of South Dayton after they stopped to offer assistance with his disabled car. While telling troopers he had run out of gas, Daniels showed signs of alcohol impairment and failed a series of field sobriety tests.

While troopers were attending to Daniels, another car passed and troopers observed it swerve and nearly strike a guide rail. A traffic stop was initiated a short distance from the where they were located.

Johnthomas Irwin, 21, of Gowanda, was also arrested for DWI after failing a series a field sobriety tests. Irwin was also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.

Both are due in Dayton Town Court next month.
