Homeowners off of Como Park Boulevard say they're worried about long term property damage due to flooding after Thursday's rain.
Laura Matthews, who lives near the intersection of Borden and Como Park Boulevard, says her basement is flooded because of a backed up storm drain and it isn't the first time it has happened.
Matthews says about three years ago, rains caused a storm drain to back up and gurgle water into her yard. Her neighbors have dealt with the same problems.
She says the first time it happened, she called the Town of Cheektowaga and Erie County and both departments deferred responsibility to each other. It took weeks for the drain to be cleared. She's worried about foundation damage to her home as the water continues to sit in her yard.
Other neighbors who didn't want to appear on camera say this problem, now that it's back again, is frustrating. The homeowners on that stretch of Como Park Boulevard are not required to have flood insurance because of how far they are from the creek, so when flooding happens in their yards, driveways and basements, the cost comes out of pocket.
Matthews says her calls for help to the Erie County Department of Public Works were unsuccessful, she says a county employee told her to call the Town of Cheektowaga and hung up.
Erie County Highway department is aware of the issue, we're told they're coming up with a plan to resolve it.
