Dr. Scott Swigart, a dean at St. John Fisher College, passed away on Tuesday.
Dr. Swigart was the Founding Dean of the Wegmans School of Pharmacy. The 58-year-old lost his battle to pancreatic cancer.
In a statement, St. John Fisher College President Dr. Donald Bain said, “Scott was a spirited presence on campus, and a true friend. His leadership of the Wegmans School of Pharmacy created a culture that fostered student success and growth of the school. His zeal for life and his passion for his career went hand in hand, and his absence on our campus and in our community will be felt for some time. He was loved by many, and will be missed by all. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”
The campus community rallied around Swigart during his year-long battle with cancer, sporting purple “Team Swigart” pins, bracelets and t-shirts. Many took part in the Step-it-Up Walk this November, which benefits the Pancreatic Cancer Association of Western New York.
Swigart is survived by his wife, daughter and son. The college plans to hold a memorial event on a future date.
