A dealership’s expansion will mark the end of bowling on Walden Avenue in Cheektowaga.

Chuck Basil of Basil Ford tells 7 Eyewitness News that AMF approached his company about buying out the bowling alley next to his dealership.

The sale closed last Friday. Thruway Lanes sold for $3.1 million.

For the time being, AMF will continue operations. The bowling alley will determine a closing date in the future.

Basil plans on expanding the dealership. He says business has increased by 300 percent over the past three years and employment has increased 200 percent.

According to the U.S. Census, in the year 2000, there were 5,000 bowling alleys across the country. But by 2012, that number had dropped by 1,000.
