Police officers state that Jindrich Koudelka, a 38-year-old Czech citizen was rescued from the Niagara River by boaters, who spotted Koudelka clinging to a log around 11 AM on April 30th.  The boaters took Koudelka to the boat ramp, where they were met by Lewiston Police Officers.  Koudelka was taken by ambulance to Mount Saint Mary's Hospital in Lewiston.

Border Patrol Agents interviewed Koudelka who, with the assistance of an interpreter, admitted that he had attempted to swim across the Lower Niagara River from Canada to the United States.  Koudelka was treated and released from the hospital, detained and transported to the Niagara Falls Border Patrol Station for processing and investigation.
