Catholic Health has reached a tentative contract deal with Communications Workers of America that will keep more than 2,500 union members at hospitals in Buffalo, Cheektowaga and Kenmore on the job.

If approved by members of CWA locals 1133 and 1168, the four-year agreements will cover registered nurses, technical associates and clerical workers at Mercy Hospital, Kenmore Mercy and Sisters of Charity Hospital, St. Joseph Campus.

The deal, which came about after more than a year of active negotiations, guarantees higher wages and improvements in pension contributions, health benefits and staffing.

“We are committed to forging a new relationship with the union, built on mutual goals that reward and recognize our dedicated associates, while strengthening our ability to deliver high quality care to this community," said Catholic Health President and CEO Joe McDonald.

A ratification vote is expected to take place within the next two weeks.
