Today Governor Cuomo plans to approve legislation that will impose new penalties for people who make bomb threats.

The new law will change criminal legislation to ensure suspects accused of making bomb threats against a community center can face a minimum of up to a year in jail.

The law was passed this year in response to a string of bomb threats called in to Jewish Community Centers in New York and across the country.

Cuomo said the new penalties will help authorities prosecute those who seek to "spread fear and terror."
