Governor Andrew Cuomo is looking to make it easier for parents to pick a safe day care for their children.
Under the governor's proposed law, the maximum fine for serious violations would increase from $500 to $5,000 a day.
The proposed law would also increase transparency so that parents can easily access more information about day cares.
The bill would also allow the state to revoke a center's license for a wide range of violations.
The law still needs to be passed by the legislature.
