New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo says nearly 80 percent of families across Western New York with college age kids will be eligible for tuition-free college at SUNY and CUNY colleges under new state budget.
According to Cuomo, families that make up to $125,000, or 68,712 families in WNY would be eligible. The 2017 budget also includes an additional $8 million dollars to educational resources such as e-books to both SUNY and CUNY colleges.
The governor says that the Excelsior Scholarship is a first-of-its-kind in the nation.
The budget has yet to pass in the state senate and assembly.
