Crews working to rescue 17 trapped miners

Emergency crews are working to rescue 17 salt miners who are trapped hundreds of feet below ground in a salt mine near Ithaca, N.Y.

The miners have been stuck in a malfunctioning elevator inside the Cargill Salt Mine since around 10 p.m. Wednesday night.

The Ithaca Fire Department is reporting that a crane has arrived to help with rescue efforts. A technical rescue crew from the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office is also on the scene.
