County looks into revamping convention center

At nearly 40 years old, could the venue that hosts more than 100 events a year be up for a makeover? The Erie County Executive is looking for ideas on ways to improve the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center.

At nearly 100,000 sq. ft., the county owned convention center hosts several of the city’s most attended events – including the home and garden show, auto show and the worlds largest disco.

But as the queen city boasts of resurgence, Erie County has issued a request for proposals or RFPs to look at the need for a new or expanded convention center.

“The physical structure is very dated its very limited on our space as well which limits the number of conventions that we can do in a year,” Patrick Kaler, President of the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center told 7 Eyewitness News.

Proposals are due to Erie County by May 26.
