The flu season is upon us and it’s expected to be one of the worst.
Health experts say this year’s vaccine is only believed to be 10% effective. This after the vaccine wouldn’t work on several strains of flu in South America.
Right now flu numbers are down in Western, New York. But they are expected to rise during its peak in February. Although the numbers across America are up.
The young and elderly are usually hit the hardest. Erie County Health Commissioner Dr. Gale Burstein said getting a shot this year is crucial.
“I know 100% that if you don’t get a flu vaccine you will have no protection,” Burstein said.
There are some things you can do other than getting a flu shot to lower your risk and others around you from catching it. Keep your hands washed, stay home from work or school if you’re sick, and cough/sneeze in your arm instead of your hands.
