According to the Erie County Department of Health, there are six factors contributing to our region’s increase in positive COVID-19 cases.

  1. asymptomatic cases (more than one-third of recent cases have not reported having any covid symptoms)
  2. traveling outside the area
  3. households with large families or college-age groups unwilling or unable to isolate or quarantine
  4. group activities and organized sports,
  5. access to testing
  6. prevention fatigue

“Everyone and anyone could be infected outside of your social bubble. Take precautions at all times by wearing a mask and physical distancing to minimize the risk of you getting it from that individual,” said U.B. Infectious Disease Expert Dr. Thomas Russo.

The county said it continues to attempt to identify and trace new cases quickly. It is also preparing to manage flu season alongside COVID-19 presence in our community. We expect to hear more about that plan in the coming weeks.
