Western New York region COVID-19 hospitalizations lowest since April 2

NEW YORK (WKBW) — According to data from the New York State Department of Health, as of May 15 COVID-19 hospitalizations in the Western New York region reached the lowest point since April 2.

As of May 15, the total number of COVID-19 hospitalizations in the region (Niagara, Erie, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Allegany Counties) was down to 189, the lowest since it was 187 on April 2.

The total number of COVID-19 patients in the ICU in the region continues to drop as well, with 59 patients in the ICU as of May 15, the lowest since March 31 when the total number was 56.

On May 15, the region reached five out of the seven metrics needed to begin phase one of the New York Forward program.
