Wegmans, Tops installing Plexiglas barriers at registers to ensure health and safety

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Wegmans and Tops announced Thursday increased measures to ensure the health and safety of is employees and customers amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

The grocery stores announced Plexiglas shields will be installed at its registers over the coming days.

"Over the next several weeks, Plexiglas shields are being installed at our pharmacies and front-end registers," Wegmans said in a release.

"Tops will be rolling our additional safety measures at all of its 162 stores in New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont. Those safety measures include installing Plexiglas shields on as many of their front end registers as possible," Tops said in statement.

Tops also announced if Plexiglas is not able to be installed, associates will be provided protective face shields.
