LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WKBW) — Walk through the aisles at Sunbeam Laboratory in Lockport and you’ll see a bustling operation with no shortage of staff or work.
"We work 7 days a week, 24 hours a day," said co-owner Christoper Casacci. "So we're running multiple shifts."
Normally making CBD products, Sunbeam is taking on a new venture: making thousands of bottles of hand sanitizer by the hour.
"From doing 100 bottles of sanitizer a day to doing 50,000 bottles a day, is a pretty dramatic swing," said Casacci.
The ramp-up in production is keeping employees working as they provide a necessity during these uncertain times. CBD products have gone on the back-burner as the facility provides a much-needed essential during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Anywhere from 50-100 people enter the facility's doors on any given day which is why keeping a safe environment is the utmost importance.
"Everyone's wearing masks and gloves and PPE gear so we can do the best that we can," Cassaci said. "We take everyone's temperature before they come in the building. We're doing a lot of those good practices to make sure that everything's running as efficiently as possible."
Because people need help, and Sunbeam Laboratory is stepping in.
"We kept hearing over and over that there was this demand and need and lack of access," Casacci said about hand saniziter. "We of course help businesses and Government groups but also, even if it's just an individual, it's always nice to be able to help."
Sunbeam Laboratory plans to hand out around 2,500-3,000 "goodie bags" this weekend to the public. Inside each goodie bag is two bottles of 4 oz. spray hand sanitizer, and there will be chances to win another complimentary bottle. They're doing their part in providing a little bit of help and assistance to those who need it most.
"We're all in the same boat, we're all trying to make it through the sea of Corona," Casacci said. "So we all have to stick together, work on the same ship, get through the storm, and come out on the other side doing better together."
The giveaway will take place Saturday, May 2nd at the Transit Drive-in in Lockport from 12 - 6 p.m. Each vehicle is eligible to receive one bag.
