BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute has announced it will temporarily begin fully remote learning on Thursday, after two students tested positive for COVID-19.

A notice to students' families, posted on the private school's website, says administrators became aware of the positive tests on Wednesday afternoon. The students were last on campus on Monday.

"In addition, we have also seen a rapid increase in symptomatic students and have referred many for testing since Monday," said Chris Fulco, SJCI President, in the letter.

St. Joe's is working with the Erie County Department of Health on contact tracing, and students who were exposed will be notified by both the school and the Department of Health.

"While we have prioritized in-person instruction five days a week since reopening in September, our top priority is the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff," said Katie Kinder Potenza, Director of Marketing and Communications in a statement to 7 Eyewitness News. "Our teachers are well prepared to make this temporary transition to distance learning seamless for our students."

Distance learning will continue until November 16th.
