Poloncarz: On Wednesday, 78% of Erie County hospital beds were full

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — In a news conference on Friday, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz announced as of Wednesday, 78% percent of all hospital beds in Erie County were full.

Poloncarz continued on to say just a little over 40% of ICU beds were available as well.

On Wednesday, December 2 there were 771 new positive cases of COVID-19 reported in Erie County of out 9,973 test, a positivity rate of 7.7%. The 7-day positivity rate in the county was also 7.7%.

There were 446 COVID-19 patients in hospitals in the Western New York region, 84 of those patients were in the ICU. Of those patients 379 were in Erie County hospitals and 67 were in the ICU in the county.

Poloncarz said the 771 new cases are the highest daily total ever for Erie County and the hospitalization numbers are the highest recorded totals for both the Western New York Region and Erie County.
