ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WKBW) — Catholic Health announced a number of patients and residents at Father Baker Manor in Orchard Park have tested positive for COVID-19.

On Sunday, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz confirmed the facility has 39 confirmed positive cases. On Monday, Catholic Health provided an update, saying a total of 41 patient and resident tests came back positive for COVID-19. Testing was also performed on staff at the facility and a total of 25 staff members tested positive.

All staff and long term care residents throughout the facility were tested, Catholic Health says. Officials say they received more than 900 COVID-19 rapid test kits from Cepheid Inc.

In a statement, Catholic Health says:
"We believe the virus entered the facility through a pre-symptomatic or asymptomatic subacute care patient who was admitted to the facility for short-term rehabilitation."

Dr. Kevin Shiley, Catholic Health Medical Director of Infection Prevention & Control issued the following statement:

"Father Baker Manor’s administration and our Infection Control team have taken swift action to stop the spread of the virus. We have been in close contact with local and state health department officials who support our mitigation plans. The facility is following all recommended CDC and Department of Health guidelines for COVID-19 infection prevention, including restricting visitors, performing daily health screenings on all staff, eliminating group activities and rehabilitation services, and continuously monitoring patients and residents for signs and symptoms, until further notice."
