WARSAW, N.Y. (WKBW) — The resident of a nursing home in Wyoming County has become the first person to die of the coronavirus in the eight-county region of Western New York.
"This morning, one of the two COVID-19 residents at the Wyoming County Community Healthy System skilled nursing facility has died," Wyoming County Board of Supervisors Chairman Jerry Davis said. "The patient had been cared for in isolation since being tested."
The source of the infection has not been determined.
The facility has put a number of safety precautions in place since the outbreak began, including temperature screenings for all staff prior to entering and banning all visitors.
As of this afternoon, there are three confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Wyoming County. Health officials are still awaiting the results of 21 other tests.
