BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Niagara County Sheriff's Deputies will only be responding to high priority calls as it practices social distancing during the coronavirus pandemic.

Sheriff Michael Filicetti announced Tuesday the decision has been made to process low priority calls for service via telephone. Sheriff Filicetti says the decision was made after consulting with law enforcement partners across the county.

The move will allow deputies to still take complaints but not have to make contact with the complainant. If a follow-up is needed, deputies will make arrangements for contact at a later time.

The sheriff's office says it still encourages people to report incidents, but authorities will be evaluating the need for a deputy to respond.
