New York hits record-low COVID-19 infection rate, WNY sees significant rate drop

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — New York State hit a record-low COVID-19 infection rate, and the WNY region saw a significant drop in its infection rate Thursday. The state's infection rate was recorded at 0.65 percent, and Western New York's rate was at 1.2 percent.

The numbers were released by Governor Cuomo's office Friday. For three straight weeks, the state has had an infection rate below 1 percent. Here is the breakdown of the different regions of the state this week.

The Governor's Office went on to say that three people died of COVID-19 in New York State Thursday.

On Wednesday, Governor Cuomo announced that more resources would be coming to the WNY region, after an increase in the positivity rate in the region. Teams of health care professionals will be conducting rapid tests at eight locations:
