Mike Kozlowski has a new lease on life.
“I’m going to do my best to do better,” said Kozlowski.
The 60-year-old retired New York State trooper from Lancaster spent 58 days at Buffalo General Hospital, 26 of them on a ventilator, after testing positive for COVID-19.
“I was in a medically induced coma from March 29 through April 23,” he said.
Kozlowski thought initially he was coming down with the flu. But when his cough, fever, and fatigue persisted, his family thought it was best to seek medical attention.
Kozlowski was just released from the hospital this past Friday.
“I’m getting better everyday. The doctors, nurses, and respiratory therapists who taught me how to breath again, those are the real heroes. I'd like to thank them for their care.”
Kozlowski’s family, and friends, all celebrated his recovery with a welcome home parade over the weekend. There were 118 cars worth of well wishes.
“It was very overwhelming. I thought I could stand through the whole thing. I couldn’t. It was amazing.”
Kozlowski said he moves slower than before. He’ll need physical and occupational therapy in the coming months.
But, this father of two said he won’t stop living.
