NEW HYDE PARK, N.Y. (WKBW) — Student-athletes will be able to take the field this fall with some important provisions.

Governor Cuomo made the announcement Monday morning during a press briefing in Long Island. According to new state-issued guidance, low-risk sports like tennis, soccer, cross country and swimming may practice and compete beginning September 21. But, it's important to note, there will be no play outside a school's particular region. The Governor says the situation will be re-evaluated on October 19.

High risk sports like football, rugby, wrestling and ice hockey can practice but cannot currently compete.
