ALBANY, N.Y. (WKBW) — Governor Andrew Cuomo is now giving county and city governments the power to issue mandates for area schools and school districts.
During a conference call Wednesday morning, the Governor said the decision was made after his office received a request from a County Executive downstate. The Governor did not specify whether a mandate would also cover private schools.
During Wednesday's conference call, Gov. Cuomo also shared some encouraging news about New York's current COVID-19 infection rate.
According to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University, New York has the second-lowest COVID-19 infection rate in the nation. Maine currently has the lowest rate.
