BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) — The 14215 zip code, which includes Buffalo's far east side and the western end of Cheektowaga, has the largest number of COVID-19 cases statewide, outside of the New York City area.

So Saturday, a ministry called, Eight Days of Hope decided to provide free masks to members of that community.

People were lined up bright and early to take advantage of the giveaway, which took place in a parking lot near the ministry's satellite branch on Kensington Avenue.

Ministry founder Steve Tybor said, "Many residents in 14215, they don't know where to turn. They're confused. Is their job gonna start back up? How are they gonna make ends meet? and oh by the way, I can't find a mask. This isn't a big deal, but it's something small. It's an act of kindness during Easter weekend. It's a great time for us to try and bless people in need."

This mask giveaway was held in a drive-thru fashion to minimalize any person-person contact.

The ministry estimates it handed out anywhere between six-thousand and eight-thousand masks.
