BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — FeedMore WNY Foundation has announced its signature fundraising event will be held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

FeedMore says there is an an increased need for food assistance in the community due to COVID-19 and instead of postponing or canceling its signature fundraiser, it's holding it virtually to help address the need.

Before the pandemic, FeedMore WNY says it was serving more than 135,000 individuals annually. Within the last two months, FeeedMore WNY has added 1,600 individuals to its home-delivered meal service, distributed 54 percent more home-delivered meals each week and has provided more than 2.8 million pounds of food to its partner-hunger relief agencies and through supplemental food distributions.

The event, "Sweet Expectations at Home" will take place May 20 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Those who purchase tickets to the event will be able to bid on auction items, participate in live raffles, enjoy musical entertainment from AcoustifieDuo and view photos and stories of Western New Yorkers helping FeedMore WNY serve the community.

Tickets range from $25 to $100, certain tickets get you access to certain levels of raffles and prizes. You can find more information and purchase your tickets on the FeedMore WNY website here.

“FeedMore WNY will always do everything in our power to provide nutritious food to those in need. This pandemic is a once-in-a-generation crisis that has wrought devastation for so many of our community members. Even after the immediate threat of the virus subsides, we know that so many of our neighbors will be suffering from food insecurity and financial hardship for a long time to come,” Tara A. Ellis, president and CEO of FeedMore WNY, said. “FeedMore WNY is in need of the support of the community to continue our mission and meet the increased demand for food assistance during these unprecedent times. We encourage everyone to join us for ‘Sweet Expectations at Home’ on May 20. Not only will it be a fun evening and an opportunity to win fantastic prizes, but it will be a wonderful way to support your neighbors in need.”
