BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Buffalo Police Department said crime numbers are down, but thefts and larcenies are still happening.

"We're not necessarily seeing an uptick in any type of crime. There has been some larcenies that have occurred, package thefts," said Buffalo Police Captain Jeff Rinaldo.

He said there's no one particular area seeing a large amount of crime, but people are breaking into cars.

"Just because you're home don't assume that your vehicle that's parked in front of your house is any safer because you happen to be home," said Captain Rinaldo.

"Some people are leaving packages outside for longer periods before they bring it into their house, and they really shouldn't do that. They should bring packages in as soon as they arrive," he said.

Or in true City of Good Neighbors fashion, if your neighbor is not home and you see a package on their door step, take it in for them. Leave them a note or give them a call to let them know.

Captain Rinaldo said despite the pandemic police will respond like they always do.

"We're still fully staffed as a police department, as are all of our partner agencies. We're still running our man power as we did before," he said.

And if you see anything suspicious or concerning, call the police.
