BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Western New York high school seniors did not get the traditional send off of a graduation this year, so Buffalo city leaders want to give them a more proper celebration.

On Saturday June 6th at 2:00 in the afternoon, the city is hosting a drive thru graduation on University of Buffalo's south campus.

It's being structured as a traditional ceremony, only it'll happen outdoors with social distancing guidelines in place.

The centerpiece of the event will be a big stage with photos of all the graduates, and city leaders want this to be an experience the class of 2020 will never forget.

"We want to do this big. We don't want this to be cheesy," said City Councilman Rasheed Wyatt, "We want to make sure these young people recognize that we appreciate their hard work and the leadership they are going to take on as young adults to make our community and our world better".

Students will have to remain in their cars during the ceremony, but are encouraged to decorate them beforehand.
