Chris Collins requests to delay prison sentence over COVID-19 concerns

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Former Congressman Chris Collins is requesting another delay in reporting to prison to serve his 26-month-long sentence for insider trading.

In a letter to Southern District Court Judge Vernon Broderick, attorneys for Collins are now requesting that Collins does not have to start serving his sentence until the end of June. Collins has already requested and was granted a delay as he was originally due to start his sentence in mid-March.

In the letter, nationwide concerns about the spread of the coronavirus is cited as a reason for the requested delay, specifically Collins age, which is over 65 as well as "additional risk factors that place him at a high risk of contracting and suffering severe illness from COVID-19."
