Canisius College postpones commencement exercises until October

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Canisius College announced Tuesday commencement exercises have been postponed to October 9-10 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Officials say their hearts go out to the senior students and to show their support several events will take place across the campus community this week which include:

Virtual Conferral of Degrees
Graduates of the Canisius College Class of 2020 will receive an email with a link to a virtual degree conferral ceremony. In the video, Canisius President John Hurley and Vice President for Academic Affairs Sarah Morris, PhD, congratulation graduates and announce that their degrees have officially been conferred by the authority of the Board of Trustees of Canisius College.

WNY Teacher Residency Program Graduates First Class
The Canisius College Western New York Teacher Residency Program will graduate its first class on May 13. Six will earn master’s degrees and receive NYS certification in childhood and special education.

Senior Send-off
The Canisius College Office of Student Life will deliver gifts to graduating seniors who live in the Hamlin Park neighborhood. These gift packages include a Canisius 2020 pennant, photo frame, blanket and pillow. The senior send-off packages will be mailed to those students who live outside the Canisius neighborhood.

Senior Lawn Signs
Professors from the School of Education & Human Services will be delivering lawn signs to their graduating seniors on Wednesday, May 13. The signs read: Congratulations Canisius College Graduate, Class of 2020 – Home of a Future Teacher.
