BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Buffalo State College will host "Bengalathon 2020," a livestreamed fundraiser to provide emergency financial assistance and scholarships for students.

For 23 consecutive years the school has hosted this event, which is its biggest fundraiser, as "Bengala," but due to COVID-19 the event has been re-imagined as "Bengalathon 2020."

The fundraiser is set to take place May 31 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and will air live on WBBZ-TV, it will also be livestreamed on the Buffalo State Alumni Association Facebook page.

The event will feature a special message from Buffalo State President Katherine Conway-Turner and include students, alumni, and donors. It will also feature performances from the Buffalo-based band “Mom Said No” throughout the program.

“Bengalathon will be an opportunity for the Buffalo State community to connect and support our students whose personal and academic journeys have been directly affected by the global pandemic,” Conway-Turner said. “Our students persevered through an unprecedented academic year, and your participation in Bengalathon will help contribute to Buffalo State’s commitment to helping every Bengal earn a college degree.”

Viewers will be able to bid on auction items and donate directly through the Bengalathon website and over the phone.
