Buffalo firefighters and police officers test positive for COVID-19

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — City of Buffalo officials continue to provide regular updates on the number of Buffalo police officers and firefighters that have tested positive for COVID-19.

As of April 17, there are three police officers with current positive tests for COVID-19. 23 are on administrative leave and 49 have returned to work overall.

There are 13 firefighters with current positive cases. 32 are on administrative leave and 22 have returned to work overall.

The Buffalo Professional Firefighters Local 282 announced the first positive cases of COVID-19 among firefighters within the department in March.

7 Eyewitness News has also learned a 35 year veteran of the Buffalo Police Department, Juan Phillips, who tested positive for COVID-19 is improving.
