The temperature is expected to drop on Friday. The wind chill could sink to negative thirty. As the temperature plummets, don't expect the ski lifts to stop, especially at places like Holiday Valley in Ellicottville.
“I have been here for a really long time. And I remember skiing when it was -30 out. And we didn't close. So, it's highly unlikely,” said Jane Eshbaugh, the director of marketing at Holiday Valley.
During days of extreme cold, staff will take turns working outside and keep an eye out for people who might be dealing with frostbite.
While it’s very unlikely for cold to close the ski resort, winds can shut the mountain down. During windy days it can become unsafe to run the chairlifts.
