City of Lackawanna Police arrest 12-year-old for social media threats

CITY OF LACKAWANNA, N.Y. (WKBW) - Lackawanna City Police have arrested a 12-year-old girl for making threats of violence against a school in the district.

According to the school district and police, the threats of violence were made by the student on Snapchat. Police say they found out about the social media threats made online and notified the school district Thursday night.

According to police, the threats appeared to be not credible. Police increased their presence at the middle and high schools on Friday morning as a result of the threats.

Police say they interviewed a group of minors and determined that the 12-year-old was the individual behind the threat.

The student was arrested and charged with a felony for making a terrorist threat, filing a false report and was then taken to Family Court.
