A child has been critically injured in an ATV accident, according to the Erie County Sheriff's Office.
Chief Greenan says 12-year-old Zach Matla is in critical condition after spending the night in surgery at Women and Children's Hospital.
The accident happened around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday night off of Townline Road in Elma, according to Greenan.
The chief says Zach was riding an ATV on his own alongside other people riding ATVs. He was driving up a hill when the ATV hit a root and rolled backwards on top of him, according to officials.
Chief Greenan says Zach is a sixth grader at Iroquois Central Schools.
