West Toulon Drive looks different compared to a week ago. Last weekend, people's front yards were covered with trash. Possessions ruined by a flood.
“Some of my neighbors had incredible damage,” said Frances Hackett. She and her neighbors are still talking about all the sewage that flowed in their basements after a heavy rainstorm. But, according to Hackett, this isn't the first flood in southern Cheektowaga. And she's lived in her home for decades.
About 80 homes were flooded. Enough homes for the town supervisor to call special meeting. A meeting where people did not hold back their emotions. Some people said they regret every moving to Cheektowaga, others promised to leave. A big reason for the anger, a lack of answers.
The supervisor says the town is still assessing the situation. And that the meeting was to gain as much information about the flooding as possible. The town engineer says the reason for the flooding, simply, there was too much water for the system to handle.
