The Erie County District Attorney's office announced 31-year-old Sirwilliam Hardy has pleaded not responsible due to "mental disease or defect" in the fatal shooting of his father.
District Attorney Flynn consented to the plea after psychiatric experts agreed that Hardy was suffering from a mental disease. The consensus cited Hardy "lacked the capacity to appreciate the wrongfulness of his conduct at the time of the fatal shooting."
On April 3rd, 2017, at Sirwilliam Hardy's home, the defendant fatally shot his 54-year-old father William Hardy of California.
According to court officials, Hardy will have further mental evaluations before being placed and treated in a secure psychiatric facility.
