Twelve cases of the viral infection mumps have been confirmed at SUNY Geneseo, a college about 90 minutes outside of Buffalo.
According tothis post on the website of the school's health center, eight of the infected with the illness live on campus, four of the infected live off campus.
"Mumps had almost been eradicated in the United States, down to just a little over 100 cases," Pediatrician Kathleen Lillis, with the Pediatric and Adolescent Urgent Care Center of Western New York told 7 Eyewitness News.
Cases of the mumps on SUNY campuses isn't limited to Geneseo, in September SUNY Oswego and SUNY Plattsburg saw one case each, both tied to an outbreak affecting 45 people on Long Island.
