North Tonawanda Police is investigating a one car motor vehicle accident that happened Wednesday afternoon near the intersection of North Avenue and Ruie Road.
Detectives say an 18-year-old man was on North Avenue and stopped at a stop sign at the t-split intersection with Ruie Road. Police say the man then accelerated through the intersection, hitting a road sign and continuing about 400 feet off the road into a wooded area where he hit a tree head-on.
The driver was brought to Erie County Medical Center where he is in critical condition.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation at this time.
