A canoeist had a lucky escape after his craft capsized in the frigid waters off Cattaraugus Creek on Thurssday.
According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office, a fisherman noticed splashing and called 911.
The canoeist was able to swim over to a nearby island. Deputies say he was kept afloat thanks to a life vest.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for hypothermia.
