The number of visitors to Canalside in downtown Buffalo has soared year over year.

Governor Andrew Cuomo's office announced Friday that crowds topped 1.5 million this summer. That is up from one million in 2015.

“Buffalo’s transformed waterfront is an engine of Western New York’s resurgence that continues to fuel tourism, create jobs and increase economic opportunity for the entire region,” said Governor Cuomo.

The numbers,  tracked by the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation, include attendance at ticketed events, and visitors riding bikes, boats, and walking the waterfront.

The Thursday night concert series was another big hit this year. About 133,000 people attended events, and Hip Hop artist T-Pain set a new record, attracting more than 40,000 to Canalside in August.

According to the Governor's office, Canalside boat tours saw about 20,000 customers, and the Queen City Bike Ferry carried nearly 55,000 people across the river this summer.

In addition to the growth of Canalside, Governor Cuomo's office says nearly 250,000 people visited the Outer Harbor.
