Canalside is gearing up for family fun on Independence Day!

During the day, parents can take the kids to do activities including balloon sculpting and animal adventures.

Later in the evening, families can enjoy food trucks, live music and a fireworks display at 10 p.m.

Visitors can expect security checks before entering the area. For a list of items prohibited at Canalside, click here.

"We'll check bags and do a metal detector wand on everybody, just to get them in," explained Matt LaSota, Canalside's General Manager. "We just want to make sure we know what's inside, everybody's safe."

The Buffalo Police Department has opened a substation at Canalside to provide better security support during large Canalside events.

"We just want to be prepared," Lt. Jeff Rinaldo said. "Unfortunately, things happen at all events whether it's Buffalo or name a city. You just have to be prepared and plan for it."
