Canalside concerts kick off with increased security

Thousands of people packed the waterfront for the start of the Canalside Summer Concert Series.

Canalside has new security measures for its Thursday night concerts. Security guards will wand all guests, ask them to empty their pockets, even pat them down if necessary.

"Honestly it's more of what you see at other concerts when you go there," said Matt Fantini, who attended Thursday's concert.

"I think it's good, and it's a sign that Downtown is really progressing and it's bringing more people here, which is what I love," said Christopher Spallone.

Security guards were all over the concert Thursday, and Buffalo Police assisted with patrols and the mobile command center.

New this year, to keep up with the crowds, Canalside has expanded its layout, providing more space for those enjoying the show.

"It's more open where you don't feel like everyone is on top of you," said Louis Carey.
